Seminole County Public Schools and
Special Olympics Seminole County
Let The Games Begin!!

"I am pleased to share that three schools in the Seminole County Public Schools have become active
training sites for Special Olympics.  This partnership between the school district and Special Olympics
is a great opportunity for our students and will assist us to help these athletes to develop positive,
healthy lifestyles.  This is a great beginning and I look forward to seeing our athletes enjoy all that
participation in Special Olympics has to offer."
-Britt Smith, Executive Director, Exceptional Student Support Services

Schools
Young people are capable of conveying important information and helping to spread the message of
the Special Olympics movement. The Special Olympics Schools & Youth initiative is committed to
increasing the participation of youth without intellectual disabilities in Special Olympics activities by
establishing school-based Special Olympics Programs and activities. In addition, we invite teachers
and administrators communicate the Special Olympics mission to their exceptional classrooms or to
incorporate sports training into the lesson plans and IEPs.
Our volunteers are more than happy to
attend IEP meetings.

Unified Partners
Unified Partners act as peers and compete along side our athletes on a team. As a Unified Partner,
you are helping bridge the gap between our athletes and the non-intellectually challenged community.

The bowling events will
be hosted through our
Expanded PE program at
AMF Longwood Lanes.
The Middle school and
Elementary school

October and February
were a success. Our
attention is now focused
on our high school
students which have an
event organized for April

Mary, Lyman, Oviedo,
and Winter Springs.

In addition, we are
exploring inquires from
Lake Brantley High
school to establish a
school-based Special

The effort to establish
SO school-based teams,
called the Special
Olympics Initiative is
important to us and to
Mr. Britt Smith, Executive

utilizing an awareness
